I don't know about text messaging... I never got into that. But I gotta say that my husband and I have had several serious conversations on the YIM. The advantage of it is that it helps you keep a cool head even in the middle of a heated argument; I mean, you can't yell in an instant message. Plus, there's a "record" of the conversation, so if there's a contention, one can always scroll up and see what was it that was said before. We have resolved a few contentious items in this way, without yelling or getting personal. It works for us, so I imagine it might work for other people as well.

Well, as for the emotional communication its bad. However, I think texting is good when you have to be discreet.
It sounds like you have a peeve with a loved one. You should sit them down (in the same room, ha ha) and talk to them about it.

it's just something to do to pass the time & you can't actually make a phone call, but want to communicate with that person - sometimes an expected text is nice to receive, but when it becomes the only means of communcation then it gets annoying.

For business it is....you can text someone important info if they're in a meeting....but in a marriage it'd be good to just tell your spouse " I LOVE YOU " without bothering them. It's a way of telling them that you're thinking of them. But real convos.....should be face to face.

i think it can work.. then you're able to say what you want to say without them interrupting you, telling you that you're wrong, or switching the conversation back on them..
i actually broke up with my boyfriend last night because of a lack of communication -- he never told me when anything was wrong and got mad when it was HIS job to find solutions to our problems but i didn't.. he ended up just hanging up on my whenever i tried to defend myself.. so i sent him a message and justified myself that way..

Because people are clueless.
TM your husband that you're running late to dinner. Do not TM to tell him you're mad he was hitting on his coworker last night.
Common sense people.

Because they probably can't talk face to face, and text messaging may be the only alternative...

You don't have to talk with the individual, just note out exactly what you need to be heard, or seen, or whatever!
