It has to said that Transformers is the best robot cartoon ever, but does anyone remember a hilarious childrens cartoon called Robo Story? used to have this army of robots trying to take over the world in every episode and one of the catchphrases was 'Its gonna go boom!'

Gundam Seed or Neon genesis Evangelion depending on my mood.
Gundam Seed is a more traditional Robot fighting anime though more adult.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is a lot more .... what's the word? Philosophical.
