Belief is never based on evidence.

Thinking is about sorting out the available evidence.
If this is not conclusive, then we then need to move onto belief in order to make a decision and so avoid being stuck.
However, belief can always be wrong as it is based on past experience, which is not a good predictor of the future.

If you believe in it then you think it is true; your mind is made up.
If you are thinking about it then your mind is still open.
Belief happens when you no longer think about it.
Thinking is the process where people find their beliefs.

According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belief
"Belief is usually defined as a conviction of the truth of a proposition without its verification."

According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thinking
"Thinking involves manipulation of information, as when we form concepts, engage in problem solving, reason and make decisions. Thinking is a higher cognitive function and the analysis of thinking processes is part of cognitive psychology."

"The intellect can mix, match, merge, sift, and sort concepts, perceptions, and experience. This process is called reasoning. Logic is the science of reasoning."

This is the fundamental problem with many religious people and radicals. They have already made up their mind and they are not listening to anything that might contradict their beliefs. Those who are open minded (and yes many religious people are) are willing to listen to another point of view and think about it.

Another words if you believe in God then you have faith, which is a belief in something that can't be proved. If you are thinking about God then your mind is still open and you are trying to discover, reason, and figure it out with logic. This is the position of most scientists and many atheists they are looking for logical proof for the existence of the theorem, they don't blindly believe it is true just because it fits in with their worldview, or the worldview of their parents.
