So far the answers are only half right. I am a close friend of one of the Oilers and know for certain that he slept with a sports caster lady from CityTV. He got her pregnant and his wife and kids left him. She said the marriage was over unless he left Edmonton and NEVER returned. She wasn't even in Edmonton for any of the playoffs! She left before the playoffs even began.
So, Pronger the ManHo got is whore *** traded to the Lame Ducks. Since then his wife and kids have returned to him to work it out.

Pronger requested a trade at the end of the season. People say it's because his wife/girlfriend wasn't happy in Edmonton. Anyways, the Oilers traded him to Anaheim for Joffrey Lupul, some other guys and some draft picks.

Pronger asked for a trade for personal reasons. Edmonton management was devastated as they had planned to build the team around him.

Because he asked to be traded. His wife is from St. Louis - which is where he played before coming to Edmonton. She didn't move to Edmonton with him and now he asked to be traded and his wife & kid/s are going with him this time. The fans in Edmonton are devastated.

It's because his wife is a G. D. whiner. At least, that's his story and he's sticking to it. But I bet there's money involved somewhere. This isn't like the old days where everybody played for the love of the game. Give it another five years and these guys will be as bad as the baseball players.

he wanted out for "personal reasons." most believe that his wife didn't like edmonton, and didn't really get along with some of the other team wives, she wanted a bigger and more active city

He asked to be traded because his wife didn't like Edmonton. It's too cold and her friends and family weren't there. Boohooo.
