my 5 month old woke up this morning at 9am, had breakfast and went right back to sleep... and she's still sleeping! (it's almost 2pm) my question is: should i wake her up to feed her? or should i let her sleep a little bit longer, and if so, how much longer should i wait before waking her up? i'm a little concerned, i called the doctor but they haven't called me back, so i don't know what to do. i'll appreciate any info!

Don't wake her to eat. She will wake up when she is hungry. Did she sleep well last night? If she didn't then she could just be making up for it.

Babies tend to sleep a lot when they are going through a growth spurt. Or sometimes they might not be feeling well. If you suspect her to be ill then consult a doctor.

Good luck.

You don't want your baby to get her days and nights mixed up, so waking her up to feed her during the day is perfectly fine. Don't let her go more than 4 hours between feedings during the day. At night, let her sleep away. If she will not wake up to eat, at least get her out of her crib and get her sleep disturbed a bit. Take off her socks and rub her feet, give her little kisses on her cheek, she may not wake up fully, but will come out of that deep sleep that you want her to save for night time.

I've heard two different things... one was to let a baby sleep, but not more than 4 hours or so... So regardless what these people think, go wake the baby at 2:30.

Sounds like she might have her nights and days mixed up.

if she didn't sleep well last night and was up a lot it could be that she is flipping her days for nights.

If she seems to be getting a cold I would let her sleep till about 3pm. I would wake her up after that. This will insure that she will sleep again for bedtime tonight.

Do not worry about waking her up to feed her. If she is hungry she will wake up. Missing lunch isn't the end of the world.

For a baby that is that old...I would wake her up to feed her. Newborn babies should never be woken up to eat bc they are on their own schedules. But a five month old baby should be slowly woken up before eating if they sleep too long. Try taking blankets off her and letting more light into her room to wake her up naturally. That way she won't be too tired or cranky after you wake her up. After you feed her, make sure to play with her and give her tummy time that way she will know that daytime is time for eating and playing and nighttime is for sleeping.

I always woke the baby up during the day so they would get the food in the system it helped them sleep through the night. I would wake her up, that way she will sleep for you tonight.

I would check that she isn't running a fever or showing any other signs of illness.

If she isn't, then it is ok to wake her, to keep her on a regular sleep/awake schedule. But don't feed her right away, wait until she gives you the signs that she is hungry.

My daughter did that alot, and my doctor said she would wake up when she was hungry and she sleeps when she was tired and to check on her often or having her sleeping in the same room (i.e. living room or where ever) but to leave her alone.

Personally, I'd wake her up and see if she's okay. Is she running a fever? Has she come down with something between then and now?
