Yes they can. Animals can get drunk by eating apples or other fruits that have fermented.

Ya, I saw the news too. Well, that's where alcohol comes from...fermented something. The something can be fruit (wine), potatoes (vodka), plants (tequila), and so on. So basically, the bear ate a bunch of rotten apples and it was like drinking several bottles of wine. It probably happens a lot in the animal kingdom.

Wasps do likewise in Autumn when the fallen apples begin to ferment and produce naturally, alcohol. The bears must have to eat a hell of a lot of them to get tipsy.................

i didn't know that.....i knew that koalas get drunk off of eucalyptus....which is probably why they move so slowly, since they eat it all the time
