I've always sorted it by darks, colors, and whites, but my wife tells me I should be sorting the colors into dark and light.

I don't have enough room on my laundry room floor for all these different piles!!

Most fabrics Do Not Run!(ANYMORE)
Therefore you can wash them as Darks and lights(Unless it says different on the label!)
Much easier All round!
Just keep it Under 40 Degrees!

It is a personal preference and depends on the amount of laundry you have, the size of your machine, the temp of the water, etc. I do whites, lights, darks, jeans, and towels. But sometimes I put whites and towels together because I don't have enough for a white load and I do them both in hot water. I also mix my dark clothes and jeans together because I then have a full load and wash them both in cold water. Now my daughter is a total slob and will mix everything from jeans to white socks and bras in one load. Do it how you want, the world won't end. Just be careful with something new and red!

I sort by all dark clothes go together in cold wash. Sheets, towels, rags in hot water with bleach. I don't separate colors unless it is something very special or delicate.

What are you talking about ANN.NATEL?! He should help with laundry and the other domestic chores. He lives there doesn't he?

She's right - BUT - you can get a product called Color Catcher - they're sheets sort of like dryer sheets you throw in the wash with your clothes and you can wash anything together. Trust me - it really works...........colors do not bleed into each other if you use this. You can even wash whites with colored or darks when you use this.

i comprehend this could sound unusual, yet I type my gender of clothing. i come across that girls people's clothing is so plenty greater delicate then adult males's clothing. this could be accepted clothing, like t-shirts, shorts, pants and etc. Then I type by using colour. I additionally type by using what form of clothing it is. If my I particularly have some adult males's gown shirts, i will upload them with my paintings clothing, basically as long as they're in a similar colour. I could be honest. while i'm super lazy and there somewhat isn't plenty laudry and no delicates. i will throw colorations and white mutually in chilly water with oxyclean and that i've got not had a difficulty.. Oxyclean keeps the colors from fading or spreading to the lighter colorations. wish I helped! : )

First do your washing daily, so laundry is not piled up.
Second your wife is right, sort laundry by clother of dark colors and cloths of light colours.

I guess I'm more "anal" than the rest of the answerers! I sort, first, by knits and wovens. Then I sort by whites, lights, brights, darks and towels. If I don't have a full load, I combine light & whites...brights & darks....towels always get washed alone in hot water.

If the dark clothes have been washed a few times then it is okay to add to light clothes because the dye has been washed out of the dark . but in doubt wash light with light only. whites with whites.. dark/with dark..

Darks (like blacks and super dark items that would not be ruined at all if faded on by other items in load) Wash in Cold Water

Mediums (like any greys, regular jeans, khaki pants etc.) Wash in Warm Water

Whites (and any extremely light yellows, pinks, cream, tan) Wash in either Warm, or Hot

Sheets & Towels ( can be washed together) Wash in Hot Water.

If you don't have room for a few piles of clothing, perhaps you are going too long between washes? I wash my clothes every 3 days.
