Working for Schwan's Ice Cream as a delivery guy. You were expected to work 7 am to 7 pm, Monday - Friday and no holidays off... NONE. If you took a holiday, like Christmas, you had to make it up on the following Saturday.

After my first year of college I took a job as a telephone solicitor making cold calls trying to sell a restaurant's "meal club." I lasted three days. It was awful both because I hated what I was doing, disturbing people and asking them to buy something that wasn't really a good deal, and because some of the people I called were pretty abusive. But I was in serious need of money and couldn't find anything else to do that paid at all.

That same summer I ironed clothes for people in my parents' un-air-conditioned trailer (in Florida) for very little money, but I finally scraped enough together to buy my books for fall semester.

The lousiest jobs I've had since look good in comparison.
