I just bought a new PC, and I want to transfer all the spreadsheets, emails, pictures, music, etc. over easily. Is there a way to plug the two computers together? Or can it be done over a network? Thanks!

Pull the hard drive from the old system and plug it in temporally in the new system. Transfer will be a lot faster.

You can do it over a network. You may need a cross over cable if your Network Interface Cards are really old, the newer ones crossover automatically.

Many times if you have a Home office type setup you should be able to transfer things that way into a shared folder and then onto your new system.
Also some computer systems equipped with Win Xp let you use a USB cable to connect 2 systems together and transfer all of your data that way using the File transfer wizard available on windows Xp.

1. If your old computer has a usb port? If Yes, then buy a thumb drive copy data from one to other, it will be handy.
2. If not, buy a parallel port cable and connect two computers using the printer port. Use Microsoft network tool to bridge.

Yes, all u need to do do is set up the mircosoft networking with file shareing and then on the computer click on Start and Run and type \\computername\c$ and login with the administrator password and user name. Then just find the files u need and copy them.

I bet you can find any other info u need on the internet somewhere if i missed something.

you can buy a data cable from best buy to transfer the files directly from the old one to the new computer. another way is to burn the files to a cd-rw or a dvd-rw (which is better since it can hold 4.7 GB) and then put it into the new computer. or you can always use a usb drive to transfer the files.
