I have an estimate from an insurance company which is really low, under a dollar a foot, and one from a painter that is about 3 times as high. Its not a big job: about 325 sqare foot to be stained and about 100 linear feet of trim.

In North Florida the range is $1.75 to $2.50. Since your job is quite a small one, it is reasonable that the painter's quote may be higher per foot because he has the same set up, etc., costs as if the job were the entire house. The insurance company may have a volume deal with a painter, but you know what they say about if it seems too good to be true.

Challenge the insurance adjuster by asking for the credentials of the painter they intend to use. If that painter has a reputation for quality work, why ask the carrier to pay more than necessary?

Otherwise...since you have paid for this work through premiums over years, demand quality.

Insurance companies are notorious for low-balling an estimate. My advice is to go with the painter that is higher and have the painter communicate with the insurance company to get them to pay more. Usually, a compromise can be reached. Hope that helps.

In our area about $1-$1.50 depending on many other things such as height, doorways, etc.
