It's not that bad unless you count:
food, Dr. visits, clothing, diapers, formula, bottles, toys, bath soap, blankets, pictures, health insurance, daycare, medicines, fun outtings, gas in the vehicle, need I say more? It's worth every penny but it will cost you a few pennies.

To be honest, babies grow fast so you go through clothes fast along with diapers. You don't need alot of the baby products out there you can use common stuff around the house. It can get expensive it just depends on how spoiled you want your child to be with material things. Mine get the things they need and not want or are unnecessary to have. But as they get older it get expensive also with new toys schooling shopping, teenage years when their interest change from toys to electronics and other high end stuff. I read awhile ago that the average you spend on a male is 65,000$ and a female was 70-75,000$ till age 18 and this does not include college. But this was a few years ago so I am guessing it has changed.

I don't think having a baby is all that expensive, especially if you breast feed. It is when they get older that they get expensive. My son is 12 and his football was $250, not to mention all the driving. His lacross was $300, not to mention all the driving. We also had an out of town tournament so we had to pay for food and hotel and gas. I bought him all new clothes for school in September and he had outgrown all the pants and shoes by Christmas. Babies aren't all that much (if you have carseats and crib and all) but the older child can be very expensive!

There are certain basis costs that come into play which go up astronomically when you consider things like whether or not you work and need to pay for daycare, putting them on insurance, buying them things, etc. Yes, you can probably do it on the cheap, if necessary, but your emotions will tell you that you want to buy them as much as you can and this raises the cost a lot.
It's going to be more than you are probably thinking. The best approach is for you and Dad to be married and for you to be able to stay home with the child. Call me an old-fashioned prude, but God designed it this way for a reason.

Do you mean hospital bills, or the actual expense of having a baby? Hosp. bills can vary depending on your insurance. Baby supplies are expensive, but will be significantly less if you breast feed. Your NB will go thru 10-12 diapers a day plus lots of formula - it does add up!

It's not bad after you have the baby. BUT in the long run it can get expensive--especially during the teen years. Luckily kids give you time to build your career before they get too demanding!
This is coming from an Airman's wife--if you know the military--you know we don't get paid well. I'm not on WIC, food stamps, or HUD.

it is expensive as you want it. there is really no amount on having a baby... I didn't think it was that expensive and my daughter is now 10 and i am a single parent. I don't believe a child should be put in a category like that. My daughter is worth every penny that i spend on her...

It gets more expensive if you have to give them forumla..and depending on what forumla you give them... because there are many different types....but yes it is very expensive. you also have to account if the baby gets sick and you have to take him to the doctor or emergency. it starts to add up quickly!
