If you have a programme like intervideo home theatre, and you have a video connection on your computer, you will be able to record your movies as mpeg movie files, you can then edit the movies and add effects before you burn them to dvd.
This is provided the movies are on video and not on actual film.
If they are on film there is a piece of equipment you can buy to put the movies onto video, but it may be cheaper to have this part done in a processors.
