Well, here's the deal, as far as I know.

Technically, the act of masturbation itself is not a sin; it's never referred to as a sin in the Bible. It's a biological process, and in and of itself, it is not a sin.

With that being said, lust _is_ a sin, a sin that very often accompanies masturbation. Whether you're thinking about someone you know or someone you don't, lust is a sin. Thus, I guess you can technically masturbate and not think of anyone while you're doing it, and it wouldn't be sinful. However, I think that would be very, very difficult to do.

Here's something to think about. If you masturbate, do you feel bad afterwards? Do you feel like it drives a wedge between you and God, keeping you from having a close relationship with Him? If so, you shouldn't do it, or try not to. Masturbation can be addictive; even "non-sinful" masturbation may lead you down a path that culminates in lustful, sinful masturbation. Most importantly, though, know that there is grace and forgiveness for ALL of your sin, all of it, through Christ, freely given. You are a child of the King, and He loves you. He knows all of your stuggles, and all of your sins, and He found them worth dying for, because He wanted you for Himself.

So that's the deal. It's not so much the act itself that is sinful or not sinful, but what you are thinking or feeling inside when you commit that act. If you feel sinful when you do it, it might be best to keep away from doing it. But don't beat yourself up if you slip up; just thank God that He has forgiven you already and that He loves you, get up, and try again. :)

The only way masturbation would be a sin is if you're thinking of someone else, watching pornography, fantasizing about sinful actions (such as premarital sex), doing it non-privately, or causing others to do the same. However, it's almost imposible to do the first without any of the second, it seems like that's the reason it's "bad" to begin with. If it happens naturally, such as in nucturnal emissions, then it's out of your control, however when you're toying with your fait to be able to discharge your prostate, you might have a conflict between body and soul. Most humans live in the middle with perfectly normal and balanced lives, and you must understand, you've been given a sexual nature and denying that part of god's design would be to deny the marvellous work of the Lord.

If you believe in God the creator of heaven and earth and YOU then he made you with all these feelings in tact, didn't he?
So you as a human being should use all the things God gave you and I would think you would include the self gratification that you get from masturbation.
God gave you legs, so walk with them, etc.
God wouldn't want you to be miserable and fight your human instincts, after all didn't he give them to you.
What harm are you doing?
It's better to masturbate than get so frustrated that you go out and rape someone. That would be a sin because you hurt someone.
If just to think of sex is a sin then we must sin constantly.

I am a Christian, a Mormon, and we believe that masturbation is wrong. The reason because the act you are simulating with yourself is meant for a loved one, its meant for showing love to your companion and to one day create children. It is a gift from God and to masturbate could be considered abusing this gift, and it leads to selfishness and unclean thoughts. I have had a very hard time to in my past controlling this but Ihave learned that short lived pleasure is not worth the much loss of self respect, I know God expects more and to disappoint him is not worth it. I hope you can overcome through faith in Jesus, that he will give you strength when you are weak. Take care

I don't really know how much Christians care about the catholic commandments, but actually masturbation can be consider as a sin because you are allowing your mind to have impure thoughts...... I really think this is a bit too drastic, 'cause leaving religion beside, this is an act that's supposed to be natural....although, the only creatures that surrender to their needs without thinking of what they are doing, are animals..... I consider myself a religious person, but is really impossible to try to follow everything just as the word says, 'cause after all, we are all humans!!!

Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years:
1. Single people should be celibate.
2. Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong).

The Catholic Church recognizes the power of sex when it teaches, "Sexuality affects all aspects of the human person in the unity of his body and soul."

Chastity means the successful integration of sexuality within the person. A chaste person's body and spirit lives in unity and opposes any behavior that would impair that unity.

Masturbation is contrary to the human dignity of the person and anyone about whom the person has lustful thoughts, and the dignity of human sexuality.

With love in Christ.

It is not spoken of in the New Testament, but just remember the words of Romans 14:23, "...whatever is not from faith is sin." Check the context. Do not do it if it violates your conscience.

No rest assured it is not a sin. Since you do not believe in premarital sex that is one way to keep you from having to make that decision based on your hormones alone and before you are ready. It's normal and natural and yes I am sure in my faith.

Is it a sin to have an itch and scratch it? No.

Simple as that.
