I've always gotten them, not too often though, but with my 1st pregnancy I had them a couple of times, but it seems with this pregnancy (25 weeks) I have been getting them quite often, especially here lately...what really causes them and what are some home remedies?

First - Congrats!! I'm a mother of one and I found this article for you. I've always heard that it is due to low potassium so I ate bananas (which are very high in potassium) during my pregnancy and those seemed to help.

I've heard it's potassium too. Drink OJ and eat bananas. I got them TERRIBLE when I was pregnant. Usually at night. If you get up and put weight on it, that seemed to help me. Good luck with the baby!

You need more calcium and potassium in your diet. its muscle spasms because of the lack of both in your tissues. Drink milk instead of water or juice(try for 3 quarts or litres a day), and eat more bananas and potatoes.

I've always been told it's because of a lack of calcium. My doctor told me to drink more milk and take calcium supplements. Hope this helps.

god i hated those!!! tension is my only guess. someone mentioned low potassium so maybe a banana in the evening might help.

but get the hubby to give you a light calf massage before sleeping.

The best thing to do for them is have someone massage your calves. Also, be sure you are getting enough of the "ums"...magnesium, calcium, and pottasium...and, of course, water.
