Fear is used to control us. Notice how the news is mainly about killings, rape, suicide, terror attacks ect? I think someone is trying to scare us. I mean what is up with the terror alert code. Today it's orange, tomorrow it'll be red...then it'll be back to green...then back up to orange..it's all a bit silly. It is true that the times currently are dangerous...but every time period has had it's dangers. Personally I believe the government wants us to be afraid. If we're afraid, it'll make us "need" the government for protection. Now i'm not one of those people that hates the governement or anything, but I do think we are being controlled by our own fear. If you havn't seen it, watch V for Vendetta.
