Writing, writing and writing.

I think I owe my spelling to my teachers who had me write new words like 10 times every day. I used to think it's useless, but now I thank them for making me do that!

One way would be, read more. Not only does it improve your spelling, but it also improve your way of thinking and vocabulary. Reading makes you smarter in different ways. Also, looking up words in the dictionary and learning the meaning can help. Just randomly go through the dictionary and pick out at least 20 word and study there meanings and remember how they are spelled. Also, learn how to but them into sentences.

The best way is to repeatedly write down the words you want to remember the spellings of (the way children are made to do). This way, your mind gets attuned to watching the words like that and if you write them differently, your mind will immediately sense there is something wrong. Also, there are grammatical rules of spelling some words. Some of these may differ according to the English you use - British or American. But whichever system it may be, your grammar book would tell you...rules relating to ous, placement of i and e, ar versus er etc.

The more you see the words, the easier it is to remember how they are spelled. However, a good base in phonics is a good shortcut for remembering. That way, instead of having to remember how to spell every single word, they remember the rules, and then only have to memorize the words that are the exceptions to the rules.

I'd have to say speaking from experience ... all those years ago LOL

When I was learning I always broke big words into little words first and then linked them ... t'was much easier and less scary .. ie carbohydrate ........ car .... bo .... hy ... drate :-) I was never afraid of picking up a book infact it was harder to take it away :-P

Here's a website that gives loads of great ideas :-)

Read, read, read! The more you see language written, the more the words will become engrained.

You can study individual words, but to see them in context is better - and, it's more fun than just reciting or writing a word!
