2007 sometime, I can't wait. I am disabled with Emphysema, and just by breathing other peoples smoke it can cause me to have a set back.
I get the odd idiot who says well don't go out then, why should I avoid going out just so that smokers can smoke, they can sod off, when the ban comes in force I hope they feel house bound because they cannot smoke anywhere.

The ban is something to look forward to for all those non smokers out there. It works great up here in Scotland. No smoking in any enclosed area, including pubs regardless if they sell food. Yipeee! No more coming home feeling bunged up due to everyone else's smoke! I can have a night out now and don't feel ill for a week after it. The only problem it can cause is that you can smell B.O. in pubs, which the smoke must have masked before.

from ireland, no idea when the english ban is introduced but for anybody reading you wont regret it. it has made such a difference over here and it actually brought more people to the pubs cos nonsmokers who avoided pubs all came then. loads stopped smoking cos they couldnt smoke at work. nobody is against it any more.
sorry i cant answer your quetion but thought you'd like to know

Yes, Summer 2007. No specific date set yet.
Ban does not just effect pubs, it effects all enclosed public places, i.e bars, resturants, cinema's, concert venues, etc.
It'll be nice to breath in place without people smoking! Whoopeee!!!!!
Smokers choose to smoke, non-smokers choose not to smoke, but smokers never respect that!!!!

Conversley, Panther, why should they not smoke just so you can monopolise the rooms currently set aside for smokers as well as those already set aside for non-smokers like yourself. What a selfish individual you must be to demand that everyone has to do what you want even when they are restricted about where they can smoke already.

Interesting question, I can't get hold of anything more precise than summer 2007.
Pubs that do not serve food will be exempt.

It seems that Tony Blair has been approached by the legality team with this question, on points such as.................
If you arrange for a washing machine/fridge engineer (for instance) to your house to repair the said equipment.
On arrival at your house, it becomes his/her place of work and thus comes under the ruling of non-smoking.
The legality of this - according to the law - if you smoke in your own house (vicinity) of the workman/women. you are breaking the law.
Fecking crazy isn`t it :-)

Hi >
Having a BBQ & bonfire at my local soon.
Also setting fire to a pile of old wood.
Might just join in with a cigar.
Does all that count ?

in answer to panther.
why do you feel the need to mention that your disabled?
you all go on like its our fault,
you wont get smokers kicking off and tying themselves to buses etc, just cos they haven't got a special ramp.
no. they will just go outside. sounds like you would be better off staying house bound, cos you dint seem to have any personality, and would just find something to moan about.
