As a Yankees fan, it pains me to say this, but Leyland probably deserves MOY more than Torre. While Torre did a great job adjusting the lineup and bringing his team to the playoffs-again, that was more a product of outstanding contributions by Melky Cabrera, Scott Proctor, et al.
Leyland took a team that had 12 straight sub .500 seasons, hadn't been to the playoffs since 1987, won only 71 games last year and in his FIRST year with the team, completely turned the team around. Despite a late season stumble, the Tigers were the best team in the majors for a long time. To have the team finish with 95 wins, 24 better than last year, is an amazing accomplishment. I think Leyland will get AL MOY.

I believe Leyland will still win it. Everyone knew going into the season that the Twins would be a good team. The turn-around of the Tigers this season under Leyland was the biggest surprise of the season.

jim leyland definitely deserves to win the manager of the year award, since he took a team that has been awful the past few years (really, really awful) to the playoffs in his first year there. the same goes for joe girardi of the marlins. he took a team with a 15 million dollar payroll out of the basement and almost made the playoffs, and he was a rookie manager! he shouldn't have been fired, but he should get a new job soon enough.

under no circumstances, yet crediting Twins for what I suggested weeks in the past, of what they could do. Minny hung around all season exhibiting their 500 form ball, and in that susceptible branch this year with the overvalued Sox and Tigers, all Twins had to do ws guard their triumphing way, shop heads on tight and do as they been doing. i've got faith Twins have better pitching and offense as an entire then Tigers. mockingly Morneau is going out with an harm and that they made their formidable flow, putting Mauer in peoples minds, much greater so now, as MVP. I knew this sequence replaced into needed and Twins could take it. This time of season while divisional play is serious for contednign communities, Minnesota is doing what they could desire to, taking fee, jointly as over rated Detroit pulls a Brewer/Mets choke on the tip.

After their late season collapse, I don't think Leyland deserves it because managers should keep their team together. They didn't need to play very well, they just needed to win games, at all costs. They couldn't even get past the lowly Royals.
Torre deserves it because he got his team the best record in baseball having to survive multiple injuries ontop of injuries, and that's quite impressive to me.

Yeah, I think Leyland should get it. Although Torre did a good job of adapting to the situations and crisis's that came his way.
Leylands team went farther than it was expected to at the beginning of the season.
Torre's team on the other hand is exactly where they were expected to be.............

Well, typically the folks like to choose someone who FINISHES WELL! I think the Tigers (whom at one time, and a long one at that) held the TITLE of BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL!
The Manager is supposed to hold all that TOGETHER and continue in the direction you are attempting to reach which is the WORLD SERIES. So, the Tigers started falling apart, amazingly enough, and the Yankees KEEP GETTING STRONGER!
Who is the best Manager? The man who does it and does it well, Mr. Joseph Torre of the famed NY Yankees. And, I might add, he does an AMAZING job with all of those OVER-SALARIED players with those larger than life expectations and sometimes egos (except for one Derek Jeter).

I think he will.
Considering The Tigers were pegged to finish in 4th place and have their 13th straight season under.500.
What he has done for The Tigers is nothing short of amazing!

He should still win. He brought that team from the basement to the penthouse. Baseball is all about numbers. If Detroit can go all the way, he is a shoe in!!!!
