I've been a receptionist (while I was working on my masters degree) and I've been a sales rep and a manager. (After I graduated with a bachelors). And I can tell you you don't need a degree to be in sales or management any more than you need it for being a receptionists. At least a receptionist has to have an adequate grasp of english grammer and syntax. Most managers and sales reps I've worked with DO NOT have this. As a receptionist, you hone customer service skills, problem solving skills (as most problems get laid on your desk to resolve), you learn how to deal with people, and the customers get to know you and trust you more than anyone else in the company. This experience, I can tell you from my own experience, (though mine was in reverse) is all you need to be a manager. And as far as a sales rep goes, a charming monkey can do that job! I think you're probably over thinking your own self importance and how difficult your job is, as well as how educated you need to be to do that job. That's why I decided to stop wasting my $80,000 I paid for my education, and get a little more education to do something more fulfilling.

That is an ignorant question.
I am a receptionist. And I know more about this company than the managers and specialists. We are the first contact to cliental. The CEO himself wouldn't know the first thing of what to do for a Travel Authorization.
And when some one calls for Quality controll , I am the only person who knows where to place that call, bseides the director of Quality.
And I do have education F**KER. So don't patronize me. Without me this company would fall apart.
Oh and Cordova: The what the HELL are you talking about. We only get time off for maternaty leave.
all the man does is sit and complain, untill the woman, BIRTHS his kids, cooks his meals, cleans his house, and then he still complains.
I would like to see you men shove a bowling ball up your *** and push, then you can tell me we have it easier.

Don't say "women" PEOPLE do this all the time. They feel seniority (meaning how long they've been with the co.) not ability should be the marker.
It is the sign of the perpetual victim. Maybe if they did courses on the side and applied they could have a bit of valid disappointed complaining.

Everybody has a right for new opportunities. Just because they were hired and took jobs as a clerial, receptionist, or window washer, does not matter. Do the time, earn the pay, get the promotion, or better job, more fun job, a better job with a better future. We all want that, don't we?

In my experience, the women have to start in the lowest level jobs and work their way up, whereas the men just start right in the mgmt. or sales position. Those "receptionists" probably have more education and experience than you will ever have, despite your rank in the hierarchy.

Most "clerical help, receptionists" actually run the office for the most part. They know where everything is, they know how to run everything, they know how to deal with everyone.
They deserve a shot more than some stranger off the street.

They complain because they are women, duh. Women on average make about 10 cent less than men per hour. I think this is fair. Women do not look at all the benefits they receive by being women. They are not held to the same standards as men, it is true, don't deny it. Women get to take as much time off as they want especially if they have kids. Women are allowed to act pissy at work all day and not be called to the carpet for it. I will take a pay cut if I can just do whatever the hell I want all day.
