Don't worry about it. Maybe it was intentional, maybe not, but either way there's no point in worrying about it. Life is stressful enough already.

All it takes is one person to decide to get a card. The people usually do not get together and go buy a card together. It is possible the person who initiated the cards for your co-worker was not at work when you experienced your loss. It is also possible the person who initiated the card for your co-worker is a good friend of that co-worker. I highly doubt there is a conspiracy.

Did you let anyone at work know that your aunt passed away?

Are you generally well-liked at work?

How about compared to the person in question?

It's impossible to tell based on the information provided whether there's favoritism going on, you're being overly sensitive, or if you're just ugly and no one likes you (j/k); but I would observe that no one OWES us sympathy and compassion....

I'd suggest moving on. Most people aren't super-close to their extended families, so to many of us there is a HUGE difference between losing an aunt (obviously upsetting) and losing a close personal friend (potentially devastating). I don't want to diminish your pain, but your co-workers may simply not have realized how much she meant to you. If she didn't mean that much to you, then you are definitely being over-sensitive.

more than likely playing favorites...but someone losing their best friend is sometimes more traumatizing than losing an aunt...Its probably because more people can sympathies with her...but it is still crappy of them

Maybe your other co-workers didn't know.

Or maybe they just don't like you.

Sorry about your loss... And your sucky co-workers...
