Actually, while everyone attributes the first computer as being designed by Charles Babbage, even earlier was Wilhelm Schickard in 1623 with the Calculation Clock (calculator to you and I).

This was not a programmable computer, the design of which was introduced by Babbage, but was not implemented until Konrad Zuse's Z3.

However, the principle upon which modern computers are based was developed by Alan Turing, whose description of a computing machine was coined Turing Machine, a machine which, with an unlimited amount of memory and time, can compute anything.

Actually the Abacus was invented by the Babylonians between 500 B.C. and 100 B.C. Other early computing devices include the slide rule, the mechanical calculator, and Dr. Herman Hollerith's Punch Card Tabulating Machine and Sorter. This device was the first electromechanical machine that could read punched cards- special cards with holes punched into them to represent data. In the first successful case of an information processing system replacing a paper-and-pen-based system, Hollerith's machine was used to process the 1890 U.S. Census data and was able to complete the task in two and a half years, instead of the decade it usually took to process the data by hand. Hollerith's company eventually bcame International Business Machines (IBM).

That person was Alan Turing. He was a logician, mathamatition Code breaker etc.

He invented the Turing machine to break the German Enigma Code during WW2.
