It'll screw the handling big time, if anything put a washer under the shock mount to raise the rear to get better handling.

Lowering the bike in general will reduce ground clearance. When you lean over in turns, you'll be quicker to drag parts such as the sidestand and exhaust.
If you lower the rear of the bike, you're effectively changing the angle of the steering head. Lowering the rear of the bike will make the steering slower. If you were to raise the rear of the bike, as an earlier poster suggested, you'd be quickening the steering.
If you're just lowering for looks, well, go ahead. You probably don't care much about the performance disadvantage anyway.
If you're lowering because you're having trouble touching the ground, make sure that you lower the front as well. Take a good hard look at the sidestand, too, to make sure that it will be able to support the bike after it's lowered.

Lower the bike. You will not notice a signifcant differance in handling. When you ride do you make sharpe90 degree turns. Lower the bike you will like it and ceter of gravity will be fine.just make sure you have proper tire clearance when done.I have lowered several bikes and never regetted it

If you lower the suspension, you will give up some of your roll angle, hurting handling.
If you lower seat only, you will keep the roll angle, but lower your center of gravity (because you are now sitting lower), making for quicker transitions, which helps handling.

I have my zx-12 lowered for drag racing. Lowering sacrifices handling, you are going to need to reset your suspension settings and lower the front forks as well. If you are not drag racing the bike, there is no reason to lower it.

If you want more of a drag bike, lower away. The idea of lowering the seat is a great idea. Lower center of gravity....same ground clearance.....fast bike!!

1 in. will proably not affect the handling much.If you drop the back you should also shorten the forks. They are set up at the factory for the best performance,so why mess with if? you will probably need to shorten up your kickstand too.if you drop only the back you will notice that a passenger will greatly affect the handling.I'd leave it alone.
