Sounds like a complete myth to me, there are no laws that restrict the amount of money that someone can have in their possesion, provided it was obtained legally in the first place of course!

It does beg the question though, why on earth would anyone want to keep this sort of money at home, surely a bank / building society is the best place to keep it, earning interest?

It's probably technically against the law but it's a bit like not practicing archery on Sunday being illegal - an obsolete law that has never been changed.

I don't know if it is true or not but would not advise it. It would be a lot to lose if you got broken in to. Better to put it in the bank and get interest on it.
