I just left a successful job after 4 years due to stress. I have a college education and now work as a stock clerk in a grocery store. At this point I really have no desire to go back. Have I lost my ambition?

heh. i think this also happened to me but i never really had any to begin with. or maybe it was just lack of direction or a decision making problem. what does one do when they can do anything? i couldn't decide (and still can't) what the heck i want to do. but...if you're happy that's okay. i'd be a stock clerk in a grocery store. it sounds like the kind of job where you don't really have to deal with people too much. i'm trying to find a job like that.

Many people have a career crisis sometime in their working life. Only YOU can give up and accept a job that is less than you are capable of.

There are some things you can do. Learn to handle stress using a book from the library and learning stress reduction techniques.

I would check with your doctor to be sure you aren't depressed. Maybe you are in the wrong field.

Try the book "What color is your parachute" to find your true career calling.

Tell other people about your background, they may know a job that is perfect for you. Sometimes all it takes is one great job with a wonderful boss to get your career going again.

Sounds like you were suffering some pretty severe job burnout and found yourself in serious need of a break. Did you ever take vacations or at least time off here and there? I don't think you've lost your ambition (at least I hope you didn't), you just needed a break.

Too bad. Sounds to me like you are still young enough to pursue other interests. I had many job changes during my working years and different types of work.Remember one thing, If you don't have a dream, how you gonna make your dreams come true. I still have dreams I pursue:)

Sounds like you have. Maybe you should do something you like. What do you like to do? Any hobbies?
