In cases YES! and in most,NO!. If you read the book "men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" you'll get a better insight into the difference in the ways we reason.
Men usually are more mischievous and seek to create some kind of impression on women while women try to create their own impression by flaunting their beauty.
Women usually wish to create some kind of friendship and a relationship that can last but mans first interest is to get what he wants: you know!
Note: Ultimately, men and women seek the same purpose in conversations but their ways and means of achieving this differs and so are their expectations

This is a little too general, but I would say that yes, men and women do have different purposes in different conversations.

What they probably have in mind during a conversation, assuming that they have just met.
The woman would probably be thinking about what kind of a husband the man would make and the Man would be thinking about the best method of starting a relationship. Perish the thought of Marriage.

Most women want the security of a Long Term or Marriage.

Men are more like Butterflies, they want to smell more than one flower.

Depends on the conversation, but generally I say yes. As a woman, not only do I want to convey an idea during a conversation, but how I feel about that idea as well. If a man dismisses how I feel as unimportant, that generally hurts my feelings. Men converse to convey information, and the emotion behind this is secondary. (Unless one is talking about a favorite sports team, lol)

Women converse to process information and generally converse because they enjoy it. Men converse to provide information. Men do not enjoy conversation. We might say we do, but that is to just show our sensitive side and to provide you with the information that we can talk.
