well, which is more overrated?
I would say Stevie.......all SRV did is regurgitate tired old blues
riffs at double-speed......and every song he wrote had the same "Pride and Joy" feel to it......essentially he wrote the same
d a m n song over and over.
And all the Nuge did was run up and down scales endlessly,
the same way, the same song, everytime..and was such a lousy singer that he had to hire a vocalist........many people still think it was him singing on his hits, cause he kept that "other vocalist"
as under wraps as possible, to give the impression that it was indeed him singing..... and the playing was nothing short of masterbatory..........just long pointless jams that make Jerry
Garcia look good by comparison.......

My other reason for SRV as overrated of all time....his Hendrix "covers"...all he did is regurgitate, same as his double-speed
old blues riffs, hendrix and his distortions note-for-note.....ironically, Hendrix himself
ripped "covered" songs to pieces, creating songs better, and somehow more original,
than the originals themselves(thinking
ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER and
WILD THING....I guess you can toss the
Star Spangled banner in as well). We
are talking deconstructing and reconstructing.......SRV meanwhile, was content to regurgitate Little Wing, et.al.,
with almost verbatim re-creations...Are
we supposed to be impressed that SRV can emulate Hendrix note-for-note? I'm sure many others can do that as well, and they never became famous.......all he did is write really awful, mary had a little lamb crap....that in themselves was awful...we aren't arguing the fact that he was a technical master......but so was hundreds
of others....he had no ideas of his own,
re my decision..

I think that to be considered one of the guitar greats, you have to contribute something special and unique....techinical virtuosity isn't enough. You have to have that something special, and it has to oozze
out of the instrument.....Carlos Santana,
Keith Richards, Jerry Garcia, Clapton in
his Layla days, George Harrison, amongst others, had that certain something....SRV did not, and his unfortunate premature passing did more than anything to create a legend out of him.....if he was still around he'd be playing small clubs on the oldies
circuit now.......SRV is simply the most overrated guitarist of all time, bar none....

I agree the the Young brothers(AC/DC)
were one-trick ponies, but at least they
had a trick, just like Tom Scholz from Boston....but what glorious one-tricks they were! They did have a very distinctive
sound, and I'm especially thinking of the first BOSTON album, and BACK IN BLACK, and the 4 Bon Scott albums prior to that.
Neither of the two were ever considered
greats of all time, like the nuge and SRV, yet they had far more originality and style,
and truly contributed something, regardless, to the Rock pantheon.
And SRV remains the most overrated guitarist in rock history...

Stevie Rocked, Nuge is good (don't care for him, but he can play).
I think the biggest overrated guitar player has to be none other than Slash. I mean, anyone who just started playing, can knock off his licks. They are indeed catchy at times, but nothing in the catagory of the other artist mentioned on here. I just think he was a big hype because people liked GNR songs.

Ted Nugent. Stevie Ray Vaughn was not overrated, you're just not a fan of the blues. All blues music is based around the same progressions, it's the soul in the music that's important and Stevie had soul...Ted just let his wang hang out and became a political activist when people stopped caring about his music....oh and he loses for the Damn Yankees by default.

I agree with those who say Kurt Cobain AND Slash are overrated. SRV is kinda overrated but not as much as Slash, slash is pathetic and many people treat him like a God.
Sometimes people overrate Hendrix, I mean, he was good but he was not the best (even if the Rolling Stone Magazine says so, I mean, they put Jack White in their "best 100 guitar players of all time" list...)

If its only a choice between the two, I would agree. Ted has a long and varied career. Plus he has a lot of guts. Playing a Gibson Birdland, a hollow body guitar designed for jazz.
SRV was ok, but to be truthful, Neither of these guitarists impress me all that much.

SHAME on you. You want overrated, talk Yngwie Malmstein. Stevie Ray is a Texas institution, and the Motor City Madman is a virtuoso.

They both are, but in the same sense, don't you have to put Angus Young and Slash in those categories too? They have the same riffs for everything as well. AC/DC especially because their drummer only knows the standard 4-4 beat with snare and bass; it makes all their songs sound exactly the same.
