I should imagine that for this to be a real possibility the person would have to be in a deep sleep - the sort brought on by sleeping tablets or some other form of medication taken just before or whilst in the bath or a sudden fit onset or heart attack.
After all, when we're asleep normally, anything that interferes with our breathing automatically wakes us up - people who stop breathing for a short while when they are asleep (sleep apneoia) usually wake up with a start because they can't breathe. If someone should cover a person's face while they are asleep, the lack of air will have the same effect.
I believe this immediate waking is triggered by the brain recognising a lack of oxygen being supplied.
So as I said at the beginning, I should think this could only happen to someone who wasn't aware/couldn't stop the situation happening - a heavy sleep inducing subtance or fitting or having a heart attack in their sleep whilst in the bath.
Therefore it's my belief that if this has happened (and it's quite likely it has somwhere) then it has only happened under these circumstances.

Yes.. we have had a number of cases, thankfully none that havent been saved, but we have had people fall asleep in the water and drowned. As far as I know, none havent been revived. But I might be wrong..

I saw a news report once about a child being left alone and supposedly fell asleep and drowned.

it rather is motives why I take showers now. i might end a night shift, run a bath, nod off, then awaken chilly and placed extra warm water in it. My (ex) lady pal have been given me a psp so i'd desire to play video games or watch a movie interior the bathtub to end me from falling asleep!

I think it's unlikely unless you are out of it - maybe very drunk because I'm sure your refelxes would kick in. I have heard of more people who fall asleep in the bath and die from hypothermia because the bath water goes cold. Brrrrr

Yes it is possible. I think you'd have to be pretty drunk or strung out. Or disabled or maybe just a really heavy sleeper. You would think that as soon as you had the water hit your face you would wake up. I've heard of people drowning.
