i have a compaq amarda and need to install a cable and wireless network card driver on to it,and as its only running windows 98 and the notebook dosent have a cd-rom(only a pcmcia cdrom that is unusable)
so can i install the files on to a xp desktop then transfer them using files and settings transfer wizard to my 98 laptop using a com lead transfer
after a lot of head scratching this is the only way i can think of doing this, with regards to the installation files i will re-execute the installation once i have transfered the files
is this possible?

First word of warning - check your version of Win98. Only Win98 SE (Second Edition) will support wireless. If your version simply says Windows98, then you're wasting your time even trying to transfer the files because it won't work anyway!

The most obvious way to do this would be usig a floppy disk - but its very possible you dont have one in your XP machine - maybe try to find/borrow a USB floppy if not.

Don't install the drivers on the XP machine - simply copy them off the CD that I assumes comes with the wireless card. Create a new directory on the Win98 machine and out all the files there. Then install the card and run the setup. (Note that some cards recommend running the install software before physically inserting the card) Check the network card details to ensure it is compatible with Win98SE.

As for the COM lead idea - not entirely sure whether it would work - it would certainly be fiddly. Much easier if you could find a floppy disk to use, even if it means having to use 3 or 4 floppies to get the contents of a CD across to the Win98 machine.

IF U HAVE A USB CABLE U CAN CONNECT THEM THROUGH USB TRANFER CABLE AND CONNECT TO BOTH LAPTOPS OR USE A CROSSED NETWOK CABLE TO ESTABLISH A NETWORK CONNECTION BETWEEN UR TWO COMPUTERS AND EASILY TRANFER FILES
