I recently rewatched 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets', and during the final show-down with Harry and Tom Riddle, Tom tells Harry that "he'll be with his mud-blood (muggle) mother soon". Is this right? I thought that BOTH of Harry's parent's were wizards. Did I hear this scene incorrectly?

i believe Lily's parents were muggles, she is quite like Hermione.. her parents are regular people (hermione's parents are dentists), but happens to be very adept at magic. and Lily's sister (petunia) Hated her because she was jealous; she thought Lily was a freak, and that magic was "scary", and she didn't understand why her parents were so proud of Lily... i do not think they were half half..although Harry is half (James Potter was wizarding family).

Mud-blood is an offensive term that means someone from a Muggle family has magical tendencies. Like Lily Potter, or Hermoine Granger. You were correct, Lily's parents were Muggles. She, however, was not. Otherwise she wouldn't have gone to Hogwarts. :)

Mud-blood is not the same as muggle.
"Mud-blood" is a derogatory term for a magical person with muggle blood in the ancestry, as opposed to a pure-blood, which has no muggle blood anywhere in the family line.
Hermione, for example, is a magical person born to muggle parents. Lily Potter was born to non-magical (muggle) parents, but was not a muggle herself.

there are pureblood wizards, which are wizards that have been wizards throughout their entire family tree, generations and generations. harry's father and the weasleys are pureblood.
then there are muggle-borns, who can be born with magic powers but they have magicless parents. harry's mother and hermione are of this class.

you heard it incorrectly,harry,s mum is a witch because she studied at howgarts where she met harry's father.in one of the books it says that she defended snape in front of harry's father when he was insulting snape.so she is a witch born from muggles.
