I just started a new job a few weeks ago (serving/bartending) i was given about 40 hours my first week, because i was new and needed the extra training (which is about the typical amount hours an average person works to get by).
then the following week, a girl who quitted came back ( who is more experienced than i am ) and the boss knocked me off the schedule. now i'm only working 10 hours a week.
is that wrong for the boss to do such a thing? i know there's no talking to him out of this..because he pretty much is in charge of the schedule. and i'm already bitter from what he did--wasted my time, energy, and losing me money.
do u think he just wants to give me a reason to quit his place? (possibly because i screwed up alot my first week there from being new) .::sigh::.

If bartending is a field you like, I wouldn't quit. You can make good money at it. Think of it like this..Even though he cut your hours, you are still getting paid to learn and once you have gotten really good at it, you can get another job bartending making a lot more money elsewhere. Use the opportunity! Meet people, and make a client base. Get a second job to help out until you feel you have mastered bartending. Then go get that full time bartending job. Maybe by then the girl will have moved on and you will start getting the hours again.

if you like what you are doing and want to continue then fight for your hours, if not then look for something else. But first find something else before you leave where you are at. I don't think that's right what they did, he is probably giving you a hard time to see if can handle pressure or maybe he is trying to make you quit. since the other girl came back he thinks he doesn't need you anymore, but don't let it bring you down pick up some body's Else's shift if they want to leave early or want a day off.

Its not wrong or illegal. They are probably just trying to make you miserable so you will quit. They can't just fire you because someone else came back. Sadly there isn't much you can do... besides go find another job.
You could talk to the Manager... Remember being nice gets better results that being mean.
Good Luck... Maybe you go work for a competeitor and put them out of business later! :þ

I would sit down and discuss it with him in a rational and mature manner. If he becomes abusive or harassing report him to your labour board and find another job. If he is a good guy steady hospitality and bar-tending stuff off the Internet to assist you in your work and always take pride in YOUR work.

There's plenty of other restaurants where you can go an apply. Now that you had your training you might get a better job somewhere else.

You should probably just find another job. Sounds like they are only using you as needed.
