I am going to Birmingham this weekend for a wedding, and we will have one free night. My husband and I want to go out to a nice restuarant. Any suggestions?
I would rather not go to a chain restuarant.

Tons. Birmngham has a great restaurant scene, many of which are within a half-mile radius.

First, there's Highlands Bar and Grill n the Five Points area. It was named one of the Top Five restaurants in America by Gourmet Magazine.

Chez FonFon is next door. It's good too, but more of a young person's place to hang out.

Ocean is about a quarter mile away up 20th Street. George Reis does consistently great cuisine. You simply cannot go wrong here.

Bottega on Highland Avenue is also top notch. There are actually two different Bottegas in the same building. One is more casual dining with a great outdoors patio. The other is indoors.

Hot and Hot Fish Club is superb.

Bombay is also very good. However, they were moving, and I'm not sure if they are reopened yet.

Here's another wonderful little restaurant: Little Savannah on Clairmont. It's a tiny place with maybe ten tables, but the food there is wonderful.

Plus many more.

The list goes on and on. I always tell friends that there is no excuse to eat at a chain restaurant in Birmingham, given the many great options we now have here.

Good luck! Hope you enjoy your stay here.
