Another idea besides making your own costume: you could go to a thrift store. They should have a lot of costumes to choose from at this time of year for only a dollar or two. This is where we usually get costumes for all occasions. Good luck.

Just do someone from the 60s or 70s. Actually the 80s would probably be really easy and that's supposed to be the trend right now... you could do punk or dress like Madonna, Cyndi Lauper... There is a wide range of options...

You could dress up as a gumball machine.

Get a big clear plastic trashbag & fill it with inflated balloons of different colors. Cut holes in each side of the bag for your arms to fit through.

Then decorate the front with a coin slot that says "5 cents" & make a little red cap out of felt.

Add red tights & red shoes & you're all set!

Everybody loves a cat. Maybe not other times of the year, but on Halloween! My friend is an "expert" on putting together a cat costume for practically no money. She is posting the steps on this link:

I've been a pirate for the past ten years (adult parties). It's real easy. White shirt, black trousers. Tie a piece of fabric around your waist and stick a plastic sword in it. Tie another bit of cloth round your head as a bandanna. Roll up the trouser legs a little and pop on some sandals. tada!

Granted, I did invest a little money...but there was one year where I dressed my son up as a 'Handsome Devil"...he had the horns and tail--and his dress suit on...I even took eyeliner and made a mustache and penciled in eyebrows.

This year my daughter wants to go as the Queen of Hearts...and my son as the Jack of Spades. We got a foam crown at a $1 store--decorated it it with jewels, hearts, sequins and bells that we had--glued them on with a glue gun. Then I have a long white skirt (that I am going to stick heart cards to) we have gloves and I need to pick up a pair of waxed lips.

My son has a sword and a knights crown...I have a couple of pieces of large foam board that Im decorating up as the card.

If you have material hanging around--use it to your advantage. There was one year I had made a 'cat costume' for my daughter...I had a head band that I hot glued ears that I made...and I happend to have a thin feather boa that I hot glued to a vest that I made up that matched a little skirt...and a tail. I love hot glue guns! Fast!

do know of the chipmunks, if not it was a cartoon with three brothers and i think this might help. all you would need is a solid color shirt either red, green, and yellow. each one had the letter of their first name on the shirt. if not maybe you can use what you already have at home.
