Hypertrophy is the enlargement of cells, tissue, organs etc. e.g. hypertrophy of thyroid gland.

Hyperplasia is the multiplication of cells in an abnormal manner such as precancerous cells of the cervix.

hypertrophy.......Mr. universe (Muscles cells increase in size, not in number)

hyperplasia.........Cancer (Cancer cells increase in number and change into abnormal cells)
