It bothers me to see able bodied people use it. I understand if you have your hands full it's convenient but I'll see people use it all the time to go in and out of a building or bathroom.
Something about it gets under my skin.
Do you use it? Can you give me any compelling reasons why you should? (If you are able-bodied.)

MUMLUVSHERBOYS:
All of the items you mentioned are were not created specifically to assist disabled people. Yes, I use an elevator to go up to the 5th floor or higher. No, a fork won't do the job of an electric mixer.
The door opened is there specifically for disabled people which is why it has the blue "handicap" sign (I used that term because people know that to be the name for the logo). If I used the term able-bodied, you might put two and two together to realize I'm not politically insensitive and have had another reason for using that term.
Sounds like you're being a lot more judgemental than I am. Someone with arthritis or other illnesses causing physical impairment would not necessarily qualify as an able-bodied person. And I seriously doubt that everyone I have seen use it, has that reason for it.

Maysonbanners: Again, all of those you mentioned are not created specifically for disabled people. Grocery store doors are automatic to facilitate pushing a cart in/out.
Also, I never said anyone was the scum of the earth. I said I think people who use it when they are physically capable of not adding unnecessary wear and tear to the device, is lazy and selfish.
Also, I let what bothers me, bother me. You probably have some things that bother you that would make no sense to me.
Life is too short to waste your time telling people what they should and should not do.
Thanks for the advice though.

There are protocols to be followed for specific reasons. Why handicap the handicapped person's equipment, by unfair wear and tear (unfair usage), AND SOFTEN YOUR OWN ABLE-BODIED SELF, TOO? (Cosmic justice!)

Why do able bodied people use the elevator, when there is a set of stairs around the corner. I bet you use an elevator. Why do you use a remote control instead of getting up to turn up the volume? Why do you use an electric mixer when a fork does the job? Why do you drive a car when you can walk or ride your bike? Oh and the correct term is physically disabled. Perhaps you shouldn't be so judgemental. I know a lot of able bodied people who have arthritic hands and or wrists. You wouldn't know it to look at them. Have a great day.
Sounds to me like you have a case of the shoulda woulda coulda, I believe life to short to judge why people are using the automatic doors. There are a lot more important things to do. How do you know an elevator wasn't created for disabled people? It's all about convenience. Just like Mcdonald's and making your own meal. Intolerance bugs me more than anything. It gets right under my skin.

I feel the same way, when an able bodied person, parks in a handicap parking place and becomes self righteous, when asked to move. I feel the same way when someone parks too close to the bottom of a ramp, to where a person can,t get onto it with a walker or wheelchair.
I feel the same way when I see an able bodied person, let the door go behind them and never seems to acknowledge that a handicapped person is walking up behind them.
As far as an opinion, yes I have one, but this is not the appropriate place to share it. Thank you for asking though.

I see where you're coming from, but let me play Devil's advocate.
Evereybody in this life is just looking for convenience, and while it is true that able-bodied people should behave as such, are they the scum of the Earth because they just want a tad of convenience? No. I go to the grocery store every week and the door opens for me. Am I evil? No. I go to work in a hospital and the elevator doors open for me AND people in wheelchairs. Am I trash for riding it? No. You shouldn't let something like that bother you honey. Life's too short.

let me say this........I have a handicapped tag on my car.......I use it when necessary yet many times I get stares because I physically do not "look" handicapped but because of my arthritis in my hips and neuro issues in my face in the winter I cannot be outside very long in winter.
One thing that happnes with me is my little ones get to the little blue door opener before me......Yes they get repremended and asked to use the peoper door....... but keep in mind things are not always as the appear to be........some people who "appear fine" are not always so and visa versa...... oh and some people use the handicapped doors possible due to severe germ phobias like howie mandel has and that is handicaped in a way if you were to have that condition........

YES! That irks me to no end! I watched once as a woman carried on a conversation outside and hit the door opener (and blocked the only handicap accessible door) 4 times before shutting up and going in.
I don't get it. I don't know if it's laziness or something else. I see people doing it in our bathroom and I'm lost with that one. Why? If it's a germs thing don't they realize that there are germs on the button also?
I think it's lazy and selfish.
Ooh, and thanks to people like Sooty Cat, toilet handles have more crap on them then if people just used their hands!

I dont use it , it is too low and the door opens slower , I use manual actions whenever possible . It is not designed for me to use so i use the door the way it is designed for me, if i were handicapped then if it was easier i would use it ......its no easier and it takes longer to open the door , I think people a stupid and lazy that is really the only logical explaination . its harder to use and takes longer to open ,so i dont use it ......I do see a lot of idiots going out of there way to bend down and push that button though ............

As long as they aren't getting in the way of a disabled person, I mind my own business. I have enough things to get pissed off about, I don't need anymore.

I just think they are lazy. It's not hurting anyone that they use it. If a handicap person comes it doesn't effect them so it doesn't bother me.

some times i do it at school but i am courteous enough that a disabled person will proceed before i do.I'm sure that it is rude but it does not say use only if disabled.like i would never park in disabled parking.
