I have come up with a rather simple formula: pay no more than 30% of retail (new). Bargaining is an art. The first rule of which is not to appear too interested in the item, if you do, the seller will be more likely to not bargain down. Just ask in a non-chalant manner what they are asking, and continue to wander around. Then say "what's the least you will take for this? If you feel it's in the 25 to 30% rule, buy it.

If he would budge at for $25, you should of tried $30...there is no real way to negotiate, you just try..it is ultimately up to the seller to accept the price....but you can be stern(w/o being rude or angry) for example....you see the chair $35, you approach the guy and say I see that chair is going for 35 dollars, how about I give you 25. Right there you are setting the tone, you are not asking him but you are telling him what you are willing to pay w/o being rude or out of line. If he say no try another #.....like 30 (if you really wanted to pay that amount). You just have to try that' s all, and not all yard sell people are that stubborn, because they do want to get rid of this stuff after all......Good Luck

Offer your bid and then don't be the first to talk.

First to talk loses.

There's no one price that should be on everything--I sold an antique dresser at a yard sale for $400, and that was a bargain. On the other hand, I sold a $50 camera for $10.

Just don't be the first to talk.

Some people just don't like to dicker with people. I have experienced some people actually finding it offensive if you even suggest a lower price than what is marked. Always be nice no matter what response you face. There is no since in getting angry if they don't respond readily or negatively. Learn to shrug off bad attitudes -- say "okay, thank you for your time" and walk away. In making an offer, just smile and make your offer. Then, what happens happens.

Yard sales are a tricky lot. What I have done in the past is, if they won't take my offer, leave and come bavk later. If the item is still there, I can usually get it for the price they refused earlier. Unless, of course, they want to keep it

what?! if he is having a yard sale and refused to bargain, then he shouldn't have been having a yard sale.

the best way to bargain is to be willing to walk away. but you were in a losing situation to begin with, cuz that guy doesn't know how to have a yard sale.

Dear.If you know or have a vague idea of the original price of the product one shouldn't pay more than half of it,even if it looks brand new.

hmm try buying other stuff, and ask him if your to take some other stuff that if he'll leave it for 25 but your probably only going to be left w/ 30
