I would not feel safe enough to make friends with people off the internet. Especially with everything that has been going on lately. You never really know who you are talking to on the internet. I would recommend to your friend to discontinue making friends off the internet and go out into the real world and meet people in person instead of from behind a computer screen.

You can make friends anywhere. Internet included. Just have to be careful with the internet because a lot of people lie...
I've met great friends over the internet before. Just have to be careful and not trust too quickly.

Sure...I have several people that I call friends on the internet. No we may not see each other face to face or hang out at the corner bar on a Friday night but we talk on the phone, keep in touch by e-mail and messenger. We offer support and caring despite the fact that we don't live next door to each other. Distance or lack of the ability to have physical contact makes them no less of a friend.

Yes... But you have to be careful when you are meeting people, I have met alot of people off the net and in some ways it turned out great while others, I think I should have maybe talked myself out of. But I can't say anything extremely bad about meeting people from offine cause well thats how I met my beautiful wife just under 4 years ago.

Have done so - never got to meet the folks (they are all in Canada) but have developed some wonderful friendships online!
I am currently dating a man I met on line & it's been great; also,
the last relationship I had I met on line as well & that lasted over 2 years. I think friends are friends - no matter how you meet!!!

Sure, why not. I think the internet is just the newest step to meeting people. If couples are connecting through the internet, why not friends too.

Yeah that would be nice but be cautious though some might be a true friend but some may just be going after your personal info and just harm you.. I advice you to evaluate your friends in the Internet and do not be too hasty to give personal info especially to those you haven't seen yet. Goodluck!!!

I've only met about three people off the internet and luckily they were all pleasant experience.
When first talking to them online, I wasn't talking to them with the goal of meeting them, but having talked for several years, we just decided to.

Yes, most definately, people are still people regardless of if you are talking to them face to face, on the phone, or on a computer...I've many many strong friendships on the 'net, and am currently in the third year of the best relationship in my short 28 yr existence thanks to the 'net...but remember, everything has its chances of going very badly, for instance, I met my now ex wife on the net as well, but such is life...live and learn...just be very cautious about any possible meetings in person, be sure to make them in public places.

I made, what I thought was, a good friend. We talked on the phone, sent each other birthday gifts and what not. Then I found out she lied about a bunch of stuff so I cut the friendship off.
