I do let them eat and drink in the car but only if I take them to somewhere like McDonalds. I still make sure to bring spill proof cups though. And if there is a mess or crumbs I vaccum the car when I get home.

Yes, all my children eat and drink in the car. I always say I won't let them after cleaning up the huge messes they make, but then I let them over and over again. It's just easier than to hear the whining that they are thirsty or hungry and they can't wait till we get wherever we are going. I would make sure the drinks are spill proof and have a holder they can slip the cup into. Be careful of letting the kids that are younger eat something that could be a choking hazard especially if your driving alone. If they are drinking bottles, I would install a mirror so you can see them drinking safely if you have the seat facing the other direction. Also they sell plastic seat covers for easier cleanup for the backseats. Any foods that aren't wet and can be easily vacumned up are okay.

My daughter is still too small at age 2 years, but hubby and I have decided that no, we will not have food or drink in the car. A friend of ours gives kids foods and drink boxes for even small trips. Their car is a pig stye. I figure we are not driving anywhere so far that there is any need for this. Every time they get in the car they will think it is treat time and probably pitch a fit if they dont get something. Much easier to discourage it right from the begining and learn that eating and drinking is done at the table.

Yes, it's the only effective way I've found to keep them quiet when they are fussy. I usually start when they are one and I turn them forward facing, that way I can keep an eye on them and I'm not as worried about choking. It does make an awful mess though, and I find I have to vacuum often. Although I only let them use sippy cups so no liquid spills. And I try to stick to stuff that's not too messy, like fruit snacks and graham crackers. But they often end up with chips and candy which get all over the place...that's why wipes and a mini hand vac are a blessing.

Yes. I didn't allow bottles, but when they were big enough for a sippy cup and Cheerios I let them. Cheerios are the perfect take along snack. When my guys were little I had little zipper bags on all purses, diaper bags and in the car. A bored, hungry sleepy baby can stay awake and sweet longer if they are not bored out of their little baby brains. For my cars sake, I took an old soft blanket and fitted it into the whole back seat. Of course I cut out slots for seat belts. Pretty much if they are old enough for you to give them a treat and leave them alone with it for 3 minutes, they are old enough to have it in the car. No choking danger stuff of course.

NO and I will tell you why........my son was in his car seat, in the back of the car and I gave him a cookie as it was his dinner time and I figured it would hold him over till he ate dinner. Next thing I knew he was choking.........I was on a MAJOR highway and had to pull off of that highway, that was not easy.......then had to get my son out of the car and turn him upside down and put my finger in his mouth to dislodge the cookie. It scared me to death. It is not a good idea at all to let a child eat or drink in the car as you NEVER know what will happen while you are on the streets and/or driving. Good Luck !!!!

We were never ever allowed to eat in the car when I was young. My parents were afraid we would choke if the car was moving and afraid of the mess even if we weren't.
I don't really get why it would ever be necessary to eat in the car. Nobody is going to starve before they get to their destination. If you're so busy you don't have time to feed your child before you get in the car, you might want to take another look at your schedule. Relax and take time to enjoy your food.
Maybe all this eating in the car stuff is part of the reason we have so many overweight children. Parents feed them constantly to shut them up.

Yes. Right about 1. I have two girls, almost 4 and 21 months, If we go through a drive through we always get an extra small frie for them to share on the way home. We live out in the country, so it can take up to 30 minutes for us to get home. And once my 21 month old knows there is food, she would cry the whole way home if we didn't give them something.

My wife and I travel alot so it would be almost impossible not to. We give our 18 month old son drinks out of a sippy cup and he munches pretty much snack type foods; things he can get in his mouth on his own accord. We obviously avoid open containers with messy things, but that can even be done if another adult sits in the back seat with the child.

Heck yeah i do, it makes them all be nice and quiet. They started as soon as they could eat food on their own and not choke. Sometimes McDonalds or maybe a snack on long car trip. But i always clean my car out really well and we are very careful of spills.
