You may be able to buy some already made. We had audio tapes for my daughter when she was a newborn. They featured a woman with a soft gentle voice between the songs.
I imagine that the same or a similar thing is now available on CD.

As for classical music, look for Brahms. Brahms Lullaby is one of the best going to sleep instrumental pieces there is. He has many songs that are similar in tempo.

go to itunes and search for brainy baby.
The Cheerful Baby album is the best I think...from what I've seen today. It has some classical and some traditional lullabies in instrumental form. Very relaxing!!

If you really want it to put the baby to sleep, make a repetitive noise like a heartbeat. Swishy sounds work too. They are familiar from the womb.

The baby books say that classical music is good to play for babies and children.(something about it that helps their brains develop and become smarter and it is very soothing

i have a few cd's that i got at my baby shower that would wonders.. they are just slow lullabys that work wonders!!!
good luck... :-) try the radio too... on a classical station.. it could help
