The French Laundry in Yontville, CA. Thomas Keller the head chef usually has 2 restaurants each year ranked in the top 5 restaurants in the world and The French Laundry is one of them! The food is amazing the service makes you feel like royalty.
Make sure you make your reservations well in advanced. And I'm talking like at least 4 to 6 months or more in advance. And the price is obviously very high as well.

Gee, there in no ONE, there are so many:
The Keg and Cleaver - (Now just called the "Keg," originated in Vancouver, now a steakhouse chain across Canada and entering the US)
The Taj Majhal - Calgary Alberta - has been called "Best Indian restaurant in Canada"
Sawasdee - Vancouver - Best Thai food ever. (My wife loves it so much she actually starts to cry if you mention it....)
La Mansión - Mexico City - a chain of fairly expensive restaurants around Mexico that have simply superb food. (Fantastic "International" and Mexican Gourmet!)
Hotel Emporio - Acapulco - Simply the very best breakfast buffet imaginable. They have a juice bar with 6-8 selections of vegetable and 8-10 of fruits. Anything you like, mix and match add yogurt, whatever. They have a cereal bar the size of two dinner tables, there is a huge fruit bar with a dozen varieties of fruit, star fruit, kiwi, mango, etc, there is a whole buffet with eggs, waffles, pancakes, sausages, bacon, ham, chorizo, french toast, chiliquilis, enchiladas, tacos, and about 6-7 dishes of fish, chicken, pork, potatoes, etc. Then there is a cooking station for just quesadillas, any kind any filling, (huitlacoche, flor de calabasa, blue cheeze, chistorra etc) made right in front of you. Then another chef and cooking station for just omelets, any kind, any filling, on the spot. Then lastly there is ANOTHER station with the vertical grill, just making the famous "tacos al pastor." (Saturdays only - to die for. In fact if you try everything, you most likely WILL die!)

There is a place in downtown Dartmouth, NS called La Perla. It serves the best authentic Italian food. Everytime I go I get something different. It costs an arm and a leg, but for a special occasion, it's soooo worth it.
Or possibly Il Mercato in Bedford/Halifax, another Italian restaurant. Again, expensive as anything, but soo good. Their pastas are amazing!
Italian food is just so darn good, when it's done right.

I'd have to say that my favorite restaurant is BD's Mongolian Barbeque. It's a place where they cook your food on a huge grill behind a counter. It's kinda like a stir-fry, but you get to choose the meat/seafood you want, plus any veggies, and then the sauces and spices that season it. It's delicious. They serve rice and tortillas to your table to eat your food with. Yummy!
