However, the dr. said the head is still not engaged and thinks it is too big. She has scheduled a c-section for next week. Is there any possibility at this point that the baby could still engage? Has this happened to anyone else?

Sure, it's possible. Anything is possible. The baby could certainly engage by then.

The size is most likely the reason for the scheduled c/s. If a baby is too big, it can cause a shoulder distocia, which means the shoulders are too large to pass through the pelvis. The clavicles, or collar bones, can break, but this increases the risk of nerve damage to the nerves in the arms. Which means the baby could have no control of her arms.

But by all means, have your daughter tell the nurses she wants a vaginal exam before proceeding with the section to see if the baby is more engaged or if she is more dilitated.

I was 2 cm dialated the last month. They should do an ultrasound and measure the baby to see how big he/she is before scheduling a c-section.

baby's head could engage, but if the baby is too big maybe he won't pass through the birth canal, and could cause some serious damage to him/her. You have to trust doctors they are the ones with the proper knowledge to make this decisions. Congratulations on your new grandson/daughter!

why is she scheduled to have a c-section if the head is not engaged, for all its worth, she still could have 3 more weeks to go.
And sometimes the head does not engage till labor. ???????/

If indeed the baby's head is too big, then in that case, you don't want the abby to engage, won't do any good.

She can try doing squats and hope that it helps her dilate more and engage the head in the birth canal.

MY son was turned the right way but his head never did drop...But I was in labour for 6 hours, and pushed him out in 33 minutes...I wouldn't have a c-section if I didn't have to...they could induce her and see if she can have a vaginal delivery.
