How much does it cost for a lawyer?
I need a lawyer to help me get a better deal on my visitation rights. I recently recieved an offer from her lawyer and i'm not really feeling it. Was wondering if anyone know about how much it cost for a descent lawyer. I live in Houston but i may need one in Dallas being she lives close to it. Any suggestions? Offer is 42 days in the summer, every spring break, every other thanksgiving, 1 week in christmas and one weekend a month, plus i have to drive 5-6 hours to pick them up AND drop them off, making that about 20 hours in the car! Now how does that sound?

You should be able to have her do half of the driving.
I would get an attorney. The cost can very a lot depending on the attorney. I would definitely get one that practices family law. It doesn't matter where the attorney works out of as long as he's licensed in the state of Texas, he can go to any court in the state. The attorney may cost a lot, but believe me it will be worth it in the long run. My husband and I have been through this with his ex. She wanted us to do all the driving too. We lived 6 hrs, one way, too.
Good Luck

Re. the lawyer cost... It costs A LOT. The best way to get an idea would be to call a few lawyers in the area and see what they have to offer.

That really doesn't sound so bad considering the distance, about the drive though, who is the one that moved away? You or her? Whoever did the moving away should have to do the transporting. If they are old enough you could always fly them in. This really is a tough one, I am glad my ex and I are friends and live close, he sees the kids whenever he wants.

Sounds like a fair deal if you live that far away. My uncle went through something like this. But he got no weekends and he had to buy plane tickets for her to come see him. Its a 4 hour drive.

You shouldn't have to do all the driving, for sure! She should have to meet you halfway. As far as the visitation times, and considering you live so far away, I think that part seems fair. It's more than we have our stepson and he lives 10 minutes away.
