When several states sued the tobacco industry, they won huge amounts of money. I thought that it was to offset the cost of healthcare for smokers that are eventually gonna get sick. This is all that I know. What ever happened to the money?

LOL, you didn't really think the lawsuits were for the health of smokers did you? The Lawyers got a big hunk of it, some states used some of the money to reimburse losses to tobacco farmers and other states wasted it in other programs. Health care for smokers was never a issue.

The money is buying more equipment for the hospitals and paying for all the prevention ads and campains. It is not going to go to the people who actually get sick. It is going to the state and the lawyers. The state dictates what is done with the money. Here in Arkansas they had a program the would help a person get help with quiting but only for a short time. They gave out supplies of patches and stuff like that. After that is was up to the person to quit. And it is still left up to the person to pay the doctor bills if they get cancer or other health related problems from smoking.

a bunch of lawyers got very very very rich, some smokers got some money for more cigarettes, the states squandered it on pork and more lawyers fighting over the pork, and the appeals courts are still paying more lawyers more money to fight it.
