Easy. Think before opening mouth- not trying to be nasty here folks but we all need to think a second before we open mouth and insert foot.
Most Gay folks can take a joke if said in a fun way. We even joke among ourselves.
Think it's great you do not wish to hurt anothers feelings but if you have had a lot of contact with Gays and they know you you will be ok.
I trade comments all the time with my straight friends and no harm nor foul is intended.

If you want to know things that are real, then just ask. IF the question involves ridiculous statements, your own mind knows the answer already, so don't ask an offensive question. Trust me, Gays here are highly sensitized to Straight bombardment and homophobia. We can go off on the wrong tangent when questions are asked, and I apologize to you for that...it is not necessarily your fault, but realize that there are a few very nasty people here who needle daily. You may not be one of these, so ask away. Good luck. Know that Gays are relatively gentle folks who actually have nothing against anyone, let alone straights. We just do NOT want to be straight, have no problems with who we are, are very free spirited, and live our lives as we deem fit. We harm no one else, and actually have a great, rich, rewarding life. We differ from straights in that respect, in that too many straights are caught up in a confined, pre-defined world that they are afraid to venture from for fear of being thought of as Gay. IF I were straight (there was a time, I have two great sons), I would want the opportunity to do what I want with my life. Gays afford straights that opportunity, but it would seem that too many straights do not want to return the favor. good luck and peace.

Shift Brain in gear before opening mouth. I know that sounds rude, but your questions and answer betray either a lack intelligence or a malevolance. Commons Sense as Chris said was obviously not on your mind. If you are truly wishing to be nice, you might want to try and actually meet some gay people, it would help.

I do not know what is more offensive. Your previous questions or your pretense that you do not know that it is offensive.
If you have a sub stnadard intelligence, then I would assume that you really did not know it will give offense. It does however seem that you are an intelligent person, so i must assume that you asked the question either because you thought it might be perceived as funny, or simply because you wanted to offend.

Just think for two seconds about how a question would make you feel if someone asked that about you or people like you. Gays are not *that* different from you!

If you truly want to know a homosexual persons views find one and ask them in private. they will be able to tell you what is offensive and what is not in private and there for you will look less hurtful and less ignorant
