You have 2 cylinders. A primary and a slave cylinder. The primary is hooked to the clutch pedal. The slave is on the bell housing. Check under the dash for brake fluid wet spots and check the slave cylinder for leakage. Which ever one is leaking is the culprit.
Remove the bad cylinder and replace it with a good one. Then bleed the clutch as you would the brakes.

if the clutch slips ,then the clutch disc and/or pressure plate is worn. if the pedal is soft or stays on the floor, the slave cylinder or master cylinder is worn out. go to your nearest auto parts store and buy a Haynes Auto Repair Manual that covers your car. They are great for any problem you may have.

Both the above answers are good. The '89 Chevy factory repair manuals are also still available.
