Hours:
12 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + ... + 11 + 12 + 1 + 2 + 3 + .... + 11 + 12 = 168

Half-hours:
1 + 1 + 1 + ... + 1 (24 times) = 24

Total = 192 chimes.

P.S. To figure 1 + 2 + 3 + ... + 11 + 12, realize that you can pair 1 + 12, 2 + 11, 3 + 10, 4 + 9, etc. for a total of 6 pairings. 6 x 13 = 78. This happens twice and there is an extra 12. So the total is
12 + 78 + 78 = 168

Then add the 24 half hour chimes:
168 + 24 = 192 chimes total.

There are 24 hr[1to12 twice] positions.
There is an extra midnight position
With every hour you have a half hour
Number of chimes=
12+[1to12+1to12]+24
=36+2*12[1+12]/2
=36+156
=192
