I'm trying to find a book that was one of my favorites when I was little. I can't remember the name of it. It was about a mother that lived with a lot of kids (I think about 9 kids), she had to go away to do something and she told them not to answer the door to strangers. I remember that they did answer the door and it was witch who turned the kids into food. The book had a lot of illustrations in it and it was kind of dark ( had a lot of brown colors in it). Do you know what the name of this book is? Thanks.

Sounds like a cross between The Old Woman in the Shoe and Hansel and Gretel.

I was going to say Hansel and Gretel, but there were only two kids in that one, and didn't they push the old witch into the oven?
I honestly don't know, but you might check some of the antique book stores, or the public library in your area.
