That's totally where technology is headed--it's so exciting! Sometimes I get a little nostalgic for my mixed tapes, but CDs and all their scratches can go ahead and leave my life!

CDs make sense only until files become cheap enough to store that it would save you money to buy a storage/player and the equivilent in songs then it does to buy a CD player and a CD to be played. Walkmans running at about $30 to $50 and MP3 players (that people WANT) running around the $99 to $250 range on average, CDs are around for a while yet. It probably won't happen until DVDs become obsolete... but then what would Blockbuster do?
In general, I think today's state of technology is on hold from advancing because people are generally happy where its at. The world seems to have finally caught up in a sense and its starting to plateau.

Not EVERYONE has an MP3 player everywhere.
They still make cassette tapes and records - some people just don't want to upgrade. The sale of CD's is still a huge business. They won't discontinue making CD's for at least 10-20 years from now.

I'm 24 and have no idea how to use an MP3 player, nor, do I need one. Lots of people have them but, I think they are rediculous. The sound quality absolutely sucks! I have over 400 CD's in my collection. What happens if I put them all on my "MP3 player" and it gets lost, stollen, broken? I would rather lose one cd or replace one cd than lose my entire collection. I agree it would be a lot easier but, who cares?

If your iPod breaks down all of your music is gone and you have to start over from scratch. CDs may not be perfect but they're not as easily lost as downloaded songs that you're only allowed to keep in one place.

that will be a fact but its going to be atleast another 5 to ten years just like records ..I think the reason for this is that they are waiting for most us us to get used to mp3 and all that so they can still make a good profit on it

As soon as it gets cheaper to manufacture the little chips than it is to burn CD's, I'm sure that CD's will go the way of the vinyl LP as well....
