He smokes, and I have a major issue with it. We have talked about this "issuse" a lot and he has told me that he would stop smoking rather than lose me and our reationship. I don't think he should stop smoking "for me" because then it may lead to resentment and mistrust!!! He should stop because HE wants to...I feel like this is a lose/lose situation - I can't deal with the smoking and wishes I could just "deal with it".

They can have a highly successful relationship if the non-smoker doesn't object.
If they do object, then they should ask themselves why do they want to change this person that they supposedly love.
If he suddenly wanted you to have a breast implant on one side only, does he have the right to insist on it.
If we have a problem with somebody. anybody, about anything, then we have observed that we ourselves are in a position to learn our next lesson in spiritual evolution, whether it be patience, tolerance, compassion, or whatever.
We can never change anybody else, but we can change ourselves.

I believe a non pot smoker and a pot smoker can have a successful relationship as long as the pot smoker is responsible for their actions unless they hurt their lover in some way. It is obvious he wants to do it if he offered to do it for you.

this is a common problem. when this happened to me, i told my chick i quit smoking but the n i just smoked behind her back. he'll say he quit but he wont really quit. so the relationship will take a turn towards dishonesty, and that my friend, is a slippery slope. i got a ???? for you too. what are YOU willing to change or give up in order to make it work? chicks always wanna change us but they never wanna change themselves. you are part of that problem.

he is always at risk from the law but if he can manage his life and still be a responsble boyfriend then good for him...if it bothers you then you should move on, dealing with someone who uses pot is a serious situation...because if caught you're just as accoutable as he is in the eyes of the law...so good luck..

It could if you love the person.. My boyfriend smokes it and I don't.. I told him in the start of our relationship that I didn't want it around me.. He hasn't pressured me to smoke it. and he's kept it out of my house. We have been together for 2 years..so It could work out..

No it can't work. And the more you think "he'll change" the more he wont and the more you will resent him.

Cut your losses. Find someone with the same goals and morals about life.
