I'm on my second tatoo, but I can't for LIFE of me think of how I took care of my first one. Lotions I should/shouldn't use, etc etc.

Gently wash with a mild soap (no fragrance or dyes) pat dry and apply a thin layer of A&D ointment 2x daily for one week. Then for an additional 2 weeks follow up with a non fragranced non dye lotion. Avoid hot hot water, no soaking in tubs or pools and avoid the sun. Always use a sunscreen to avoid fading (not to mention skin cancer). I have 4 tattoos and have always followed this same protocol with excellent turn out. I like to use the unscented presoaped baby wash clothes for cleansing during the first 2 weeks. The cloths are super soft and no harsh chemicals.

The easiest and best thing to use on it for the first week is A & D ointment. After 2 weeks or so, you can then treat like almost any of your skin, though if it is in an area that tans, you might want to have a small bottle of higher SPF suntan lotion to aply to it. That helps it resist fading in sunlight.

aloe vera also works.... try not to use lotions that have fragrances in them. Also make sure to apply sunscreen on it when you go out to the beach or pool if its on a visible place...

use triple antibiotic....thats the only thing my tattoo artit told myself and my friend to ever use.

wash it with soap and warm water....pat dry DO NOT RUB IT. you can't go swimming or soak it in a bath for 2 weeks.

just make sure its moisturized with the triple antibiotic....but don't put too much on it or the color will fade.

DO NOT USE VASELINE!!!!! If it's pretty new, clean it a couple times a day with soap and water. Add LUBRIDERM (sp) Lotion to it constantly. You don't want it to be dry!
