Uhm, i think if you don't have any background or any knowlegde about those languages, both are hard to study..

But if u'll going to ask me, what language will i prefer to learn, then that will definately be Chinese.. You know why?? As we all know, there are about a billion chinese living on earth.. far more in number than americans, or other english speaking countries.. sooner or later, english will no longer be the international language, it will be replaced by chinese. So better learn chinese this early..

It doesn't matter how difficult it is.. It will be an advantage for you soon.

I'm planning to take up chinese lessons too..

Hehe.. That's all.

Ciao!

I think that any non European language would be difficult to study because non European languages have little if no connection to what we normally hear. for example, if you want to learn one of the Romance languages it might seem hard but since those languages and English have lots of connection to one common language, Latin, it is easier to learn one of those languages because of that common heritage.

You can learn any language you want, some are easier than others, you just need to put in serious effort to learn the language.

I think that Chinese and Japanese will never become dominant languages because of their writing. yes English does have its tricks but at least in English words are spelled out with letters. Japanese and Chinese are spelled out with symbols representing individual syllables. That is another reason those languages are difficult to learn; it takes time to learn what each of those symbols mean. there are so many syllables in English, just imagine replacing the alphabet with symbols and writing syllables instead of simply spelling out a word. As speakers of a European language, we arent used to reading symbols, we are used to reading letters. thats another reason why its easier to learn a European Language like French, Italian, German, Spanish, they use letters to write just like English.

so as far as learning the speaking part, thats something most people could do OK. but learning how to write it, like I said, thats a different story.
